On February 24, 2015, the people`s deputy Konstantin Mateychenko, a member of the "People's Front", submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada, according to which the responsibility of citizens for criticizing the government will be increased.
The bill NO.2225 suggests to amend the Criminal Code of Ukraine, according to which, for "... deliberate actions to undermine the authority of the state and its government," the punishment will be enhanced. The bill NO.2225 obviously poses a treat for Freedom of Speech!
Activists of the NGO "Freedom Voice" conducted a survey among citizens on the bill. 1460 citizens in different cities of Ukraine were interviewed. The results are obvious: 96% of respondents expressed strong indignation and discontent, saying a firm "no" on the bill, 3% of Ukrainians evaded the answer, they did not define their position, and only 1% of citizens supported the government restrictive supervision of Freedom of Speech in our country.
Political party "People's Front", led by Yatsenyuk before the election, urged the people, that all legislative activity of the Verkhovna Rada and the government would fully according to the European standards and international rules, which are based on the principles of democracy, humanism and respect for human rights and freedoms.
It would be interesting to know how many Ukrainian citizens would support "People's Front" on the election, if it introduced all bills to people before the election, not after it.
Representatives of the NGO "Freedom Voice" filed an application with the requirement to withdraw the bill NO.2225, which is a flagrant violation of Freedom of Speech and human rights.
